sounds like an interesting idea, im mostly wondering if the bellhousing for the stock trans would bolt up to the 3.8, and if stuff like the motor mounts would be the same? if it could be dropped in without alot of headaches i'd do it. something differant for sure. is the truck in question a 4x4 or a 2wd?
