Default Re: Not sure if knock or misfire or both?

Dang, he starts to hone in on the sound, getting closer and closer and then starts to wave the camera/phone around like he's flying a drone.
I would be checking the timing chain area as that seemed to be from where the noise emanates.
It almost sounds like a loose pulley on the crankshaft. It does have a 'rap', but does not have a sound like a rod bearing, to me. Not loud or heavy enough to be a piston whanging up and down on the journal.
Has the engine been maintained well, or neglected like so many others? If you look through the oil filler and peer at the gizzards you can see, do they look like fresh metal or are they dark brownish? If you idle the engine with the oil cap off, does that help hearing the sound more clearly?
If there was a problem with the cam chain, it might be affecting the cam position sensor, at specific rpms having a harmonic, and poking the ignition system causing a misfire. Or not.
