This is what the shift stub looks like. It's held in with bushings. When you remove it you can see inside the tranny like the 2nd pic shows. DID YOU AT ANY POINT REMOVE THE SHIFT STUB?

I agree, does look like more then enough travel. These clutch master cylinders are suppose to be bleed outside of the truck.
