Default Re: Cummins R 2.8 Diesel

That would be true for most, but for me I've spent a lot of time and money outfitting my Ranger for extended overland travel. Even buying a decent used truck would be the cost of the engine, plus I'd have significant costs and a lot of labor in redoing my outfitting.

Depends on your situation. The Cummins Repower program is geared towards people in my situation who want to keep their present rig but need/want to upgrade the power plant.

I wouldn't consider it until the 3.0 takes a dump (hope to get another 100,000k out of it), and by then I'm pretty certain there will be better deals than $9000 MSRP.

It will be interesting to see what kind of adapters and other parts are manufactured for installs on various vehicles.

Cummins documentaion says the R 2.8 Diesel Turbo has been emissions certified and generally is suitable for 1999 or older vehicles for emissions compliance.
