I painted my grill black years ago.. (5-ish) with the stuff from Advance Auto Zone. Dupicolor perfect match series black and their clear coat. I used primer, paint, clear. I think 3-4 coats each. Still looks brand new today. Zero issues. My grill looked exactly like yours did (that ugly faded grayish color) I do remember popping the grill out of the grill surround was a bit of a pain in the ass but prepping and painting it was not hard at all.

I much prefer the look of the black grill as it makes the front end look so much nicer than the grayish color.
