Personally I think its fine to clean it and I've done mine with nothing but good results. Just thought I should state it so you don't go scrubbing away at those things.

If it's covered in greasy black residue, then I don't think whatever the coating is would be doing much good. But I agree that they shouldn't be scrubbed to much. I did mine Wednesday and used a nylon bristle brush.
