Default Re: How To: Remote Start

Next is the 6-pin Remote Start connector. ALL wires will be used here. You will be tapping into the wires of this connector on the vehicle:

RED (+) (30A) HIGH CURRENT 12V INPUT goes to YELLOW (+)
*There are TWO of these wires
PINK/WHITE OUTPUT TO SECOND IGNITION/ACCESSORY CIRCUIT goes to BLACK/LIGHT-GREEN (+)
ORANGE OUTPUT TO ACCESSORY CIRCUIT goes to GRAY/YELLOW (+)
PURPLE OUTPUT TO STARTER CIRCUIT goes to RED/LIGHT-BLUE (+)
PINK OUTPUT TO PRIMARY IGNITION CIRCUIT goes to LIGHT-GREEN/PURPLE (+)
*I used butt connectors here but if I did it again I would simply strip some covering exposing the wire and use solder to make a connection.

Lastly, we have the 5-pin connector.
I chose NOT to use the hood shut down pin, and rangers do not have any accessories such as a rear defogger so only THREE wires are needed here.
BLACK/WHITE (-)NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH INPUT goes to CHASSIS GROUND
*this is the case for automatics. Manuals will have to find this wire.
VIOLET/WHITE TACHOMETER INPUT WIRE goes to TAN/WHITE (AC) at Ignition Coil
*this wire must be fed through the firewall and connected at the ignition coil like so:

Others methods of tapping into this circuit are available but I won't go over them.
BROWN (+)BRAKE SHUTDOWN INPUT WIRE goes to LIGHT-GREEN (+) found in the kick panel shown below:

*this is the hardest wire to tap into because you have twist your body. This wire makes the truck turn off if someone were to try and steal the vehicle and there wasn't a key in the ignition.

The following pictures show my somewhat messy install and mounting location of the modules:

That is all that is necessary for the remote start from what I can tell. I am by no means an installer but the preceding process worked for me. I'll be adding the door lock part sometime in the future. Feel free to ask any questions.
