Default Transmission wont go in reverse

First of all, I have been reading the posts on here about transmission problems, but I have a question. I have a 2000 RWD Ford Ranger with a 4r55e transmission. All the forward gears work, but the reverse wont engage. If you are on flat ground and give it a push, the reverse will go for a bit but stop with any resistance. I dropped the pan to see what was going on. The fluid I clean and there are no particles I the pan. I checked the actuator, and the seals are good on the plunger. The only thing I find weird on a visual inspection is that the solenoid dealing with reverse is loose, it wiggles while all the other solenoids are tight. I checked to see if I had a code for the solenoid being bad, but had none. My question is this, if that solenoid is loose, would that be enough to not let the reverse engage fully. Any ideas would be appreciated.
