Default Need some help on my 2.3L

My 85 Ranger 4x4 has a 2.3L fuel injected engine (swapped in when I got it).

It ran good and then one day going home from work about a mile down the road it started to slow down on me and turned off.

I tried cranking it back up but it would just turn over.

Anyways, I finally found a wire that was broken off from negative ground cable. I think it was to the fuel pump.

I check the fuel rail...it is getting gas.

I was getting spark at one of the plugs I tested.

Someone told me to check the timing. I saw the timing belt was old so I took it out.

Got my cam and crank aligned (cam to the pointer and the crank to the TC on the timing cover)....checked spark later..wasn't none.

Finally found out while ago I had my rotor on wrong, maybe it will be ok.

Anyways, I got the distributor, cam, and crank aligned and now I am getting spark.

Truck is making this weird grumble, popping, or whatever sound when I turn it over but then stops. I then turn it over again and it does the same thing....

Any ideas what it could be?
