Default Misc small things to work on.....

Hey guys,

I found out my 97 XLT is supposed to have anti-lock brakes. I don't think they are working. Before I fixed my rear brakes, yesterday, they would lock up on gravel or slippery wet roads. I've heard a bit of grumbling that anti-lock system on these trucks not working is a common problem. Are they worth fixing and will they work for ong if I do?

Second, I changed the fuel filter on the frame rail yesterday. I noticed the manual trans housing has a large hole in the side of it. I could nearly get all my fingers into the transmission and it looks as though I don't want that open here in the harsh winter months.

Is there supposed to be a cover over this hole? It's on the driver side close to the engine tranny connection and there appears to be a rear facing slot directly behind it about the width of a pencil approximately two inches tall. is this for ventilation?

Thanks in advance, Dan
