Default '98 Rack & Pinion Leaking

I have a '98 2WD X-Cab with the 4L V6. The rack & pinion has been leaking quite a bit of fluid and I was wondering what options I have for fixing it myself.

Is it possible to replace the seals on the unit or is it better to just replace the whole thing?

If the seals can be done, is it possible to do it with the unit still in the truck?

If it's better to replace the whole unit, how difficult is it? How much time will it take for a moderately skilled person to do it? Specialized tools? Are there any parts other than the unit that need to be replaced? Any common pitfalls?

Thanks
