To my knowledge, states issue one driver's license. For instance, I am licensed in OH for passenger vehicles only, which I believe is 'Class D', which appears on my license. If I get a CDL or motorcycle license, I would achieve another endorsement which means I'd have an additional letter on the back of my license. I'd be tested and then my license would be reissued with the proper endorsement. Most info. is probably online now.
