I didn't connect the auto headlights on my mirror, just the auto dim. Also modded that function with a switch so I can have it on constant or off completely.
I like the way it dims & you don't need to flip the mirror up when some a-hole bright lights you from behind

Not sure how it would affect hid's, but as long as it doesn't turn them on/off frequently it should be ok.
