NO, up front this does NOT make sense (without more info/reason).

Was it confirmed via the parts book at NAPA that the 4WD front brake hoses are the same part as the 2WD brake hoses and that they are correct for the application? And when it came time to install the new hoses, did you carefully compare the old hose assemblies against the new for any differences that would affect fit/function? I swear, once in awhile parts suppliers screw up, the book shows the wrong part, whatever, and you need to always compare old against new for differences.

*I do know that on my old 94, there was a difference between 2WD and 4WD front brake hoses and they did not interchange; this and the fact that you even brought up the got 4WD hoses for your 2WD has me wondering if there is a difference between them that is causing the leak at the banjo. Again, this is where the inspect before installing can be important.
