Default 2.9 engine rebuild parts

im about to buy a 89 bronco 2 and i want to rebuild the engine. does anybody know where i can get new pistons, rings, bearings, and gaskets for the 2.9 for fairly cheap. also i was thinking about putting a bigger cam in it but i cant find one. and are there any other common problem areas with the 2.9 that i need to be aware of? ive never delt with the 2.9 before so i dont really know where to find any parts for it other than the regular parts houses and they want alot for everything i need.

I think I got mine off someone who sold kits on Ebay, basically ordered only stuff I needed. Not sure if Rock auto would carry them. Search on shopping.google.com, etc.

Why do you want to rebuild it just out of curiousity?

Camcraft had some. But you would be best to contact a manufacturer to grind one for your application. They will get you a better grind depending on what you actually use the truck for. Camcraft has some really cool stuff. Tom Morana also has some 2.9L performance parts. Colt cams might grind one for you, just look around for manufacturers and ask.

Also too aggressive cam will screw with the MAP if the vacuum changes from the cam, may need to go with a MAF conversion if you go to aggressive. The one I had ground was not computer friendly..

Problem areas are clogged rocker shafts (look into the free floating rocker conversion also), poor lubrication to the heads/lifters, worn cam bearings, heads that crack, cranks that need sleeved at the rear main seal, rusted exhaust bolts that snap when removing manifolds, thermostat bolts snapping, water pump bolt snapping, etc..

thanks man, thats alot of help, i was thinking about rebuilding it because it has a little over 200,000 miles on it and its been sitting for over a year, the guy im buying it from says that it was running good when he put it up but you never know, after i pull the engine out im going to tear it down to the long block and check all the tolerances and see if it does need to be rebuilt so im not sure if im going to have to or not yet, and i wasnt wanting to go to aggressive with the cam just a little something extra
