Default 89 ranger 2.9 v6 oil leak, rear main, video

Does this look like a rear main leak?

I just got the truck- but it sat for 8 years. Was parked in 2005 after it started running bad. A year prior, it had an engine rebuild (I have the receipt for the work). It does't mention that he replaced the rear main seal, but maybe it was in the "kit".

Anyway- I wonder if by some chance I could deal with this with ATP AT-205 seal sweller, or even just synthetic oil (which is supposed to make seal swell a bit). I really don't feel like pulling the trans to change the rear main seal. Also, Bar's Leaks rear main seal repair. That is exactly what it is intended for.

that is too bad for anything except repairing the problem to work. I have tried those products in the past for rear main and no way it will work for something that severe. the way it's leaking and that oil looks awfully strange (looks muddy), not sure if it's camera or what, but compare to your trans fluid and make sure that's actually not from the trans front seal...

Yes- since I first posted, I have determined that it is from the tranny. It is nasty brown and opaque. Front seals on the tranny have gone apparently.

It appears that these seals have deteriorated from it sitting for 8 years, because this was not a problem when it was first parked.
