Default 2.9 puffing black smoke and can not pull codes

Hello I have been having a problem out of my 88 2.9 standard cab ranger here for the last week. It started when I was parked in my town for a little bit. I went back out to my truck turn the key and nothing, the lights all came on just acted like the clutch pedal wasn't pressed. Well i crossed my solenoid over and made it home and when I did it ran fine just like it normally does. Searched all over for how to cross over the clutch interlock switch on the pedal because I didnt have a new one to put on it at the time. So i crossed the black/white wire on the main end with the two pink/green wires on the other end and changed the solenoid out at the same time. Well it fired right up and died. So i gave it a little gas when i started it next and it blows black smoke out which is telling me it is running rich but i cant figure out why. I though me crossing the wires over on the clutch interlock switch may have caused it so i got one out of a 90 model 2wd and still didnt fix it. I tried pulling the codes from the computer and they engine light wont flash at all. I tried it with a meter and the meter wont move just shows a constant 12v. Also tried pulling them with a scanner and it will not pull them either. To the best of my knowledge I think the two problems are related can anyone help me with this?

when you started it with the other computer, was the interlock switch still by-passed? were you able to test the other computer in a "working" truck to verify that ECM didn't get hosed after running it in your truck? don't have the EVTM for your truck, but it might be worth while to see where those wires are going to make sure the ecm didn't get shorted out.

Come to think of it Im not sure if it was or not, I'm pretty sure I un bypassed the black and white wire and just had the other two hooked up and no I don't have another truck to test the computer in to be sure that the computer was good the 89 I pulled the computer out of is without a motor at the moment as well and not running.

just weird, you've definitely got some electrical problems going on there. not sure what else could have caused it except that bypass with what little is known. have you tried it with the bypass completely undone, jumping the solenoid or triggering with a switch? I have a good '88 ECM for an auto that you could pretty much have for shipping, but it's a real bear for me to ship things. I work just out side of Ft. Wayne now, and I am a pretty good distance from getting to a shipping station while they're open. it's not the right ECM, but you could at least verify and it would somewhat work OK for the time being.
