Default 88 2.9 wont start!!!

I have search all threw the threads and see that it is a common problem, but no one has a straight answer for a FIX. My engine cranks over fine, it is getting fuel, and spark. I know the first question will be how do you know I check the shreader valve while my wife cranked the motor, exactly what the ford mechanic told me to do, and fuel shot out. As far as spark checked each wire for spark! Replaced coil, relays still nothing. Then this afternoon it started once and wont start again! So any help will be appreciated! Oh yeah and the fuel filter being clogged will only cause it to not accelerate.

Spark once is not spark. It needs to happen each and every time. Check your distributor and rotor. See if your coil has spark, follow the trail from your switch (key) to the spark plug. If it stops anywhere in between, your rig won't run consistently. If it started once for you it might be a short.

Pull the plugs, and make sure there isn't any oil on them. This may sound weird, but thats how I found out that I had melted a piston in my BII 2.9, and it was really hard to get started.

Really need a gauge to know if the fuel pressure is correct, too much fuel pressure and it's flooding out, too little will get poor atomization from out of the injectors. But I can see where the tech is coming from; if it's not under any pressure at all, that would indicate that the pumps are likely not turning on. And the engine doesn't need to be cranking, the computer will pressurize the system for 1-2 seconds 2 times each when the key is put onto 'Run' FWIW.

First thing I would probably try is putting some starting fluid into the upper intake and see if it fires up. If it does, the injectors may not be getting signal from the computer to spray fuel.

What is the history? Is this just something you bought to get running, or did it just die one day?

sounds like the TFI module on the distributor.take it off and have it checked more than once ,if any test shows bad get a new one, have it checked also. takses an inverted torx to get it off, can buy the tool at parts store.

Got the truck started and drove it home, but when I had it on the freeway on cruise it would start to lose power than jump back up to speed?
