Default water outlet problem

I'm sorry I didn't search the threads, but time is of the essence here. I have a 97 2 wheel drive with the small V 6. I think the part is called a water outlet. it appears to be connected to the thermostat. I am no mechanic, so please excuse my ignorance. I took a picture of the part and showed it to the guy at the auto parts store. he tried to look it up, including a couple of years before the year of my truck, and a couple of years after, and the picture of the parts that came up on the computer looked nothing like the part in my truck. can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong. here is a pic of the part. any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT- for some reason my picture will not upload.( feeling pretty stoopid about now) anyways, the water outlet in my truck has to rubber hoses that run into the cab and 2 hoses in the front that looks like 1 runs towards the water pump and the other goes to the radiator. what looks like a thermostat appears to be connected to the outlet. my problem is, all of the water outlets that they showed me at the auto parts store on the computer only have 1 outlet for a hose.

2.9 was from 86-92, you probably have a 3.0L engine. Sorry, don't know the hose routing for the coolant lines, but you might try the other forum - or maybe a mod will/can move this into the right place(?)

If its the small v6 then it's a 3.0 for sure. My brother has a '94 which should be similar if not identical. When he gets home Ill go out and check it and see if I can help!
