I'll check out that TFI. I was thinking bout putting at Dana 35 in the front I juss don't know what I need for the conversion to a straight axle. My buddy put a Dana 35 on he's jeep xj and he had a really big problem hookig up the abs which inreturned he had a lot of problems trying to get it to drive. We had to bypass the the abs. Did you have any problems?

----------

And that is a nice truck! I thought a 4in would be to tall but after I saw yours I think I'm goin to go with a 4in

Because mine is an 88 I didn't have any ABS to mess with, pulled both axles out of a 92 exploder so the 35 was a straight bolt-in

The 8.8 I had to cut the spring perches off and weld new ones on for it to fit.

Had a hassle with the rear axle emergency brake cable but figured it out with some 1/4" threaded rod

What I like about the stance is that I just slide into the seat, don't have to climb up or down

----------

Captain Kodski: forgot to mention I had to cut 3" out of the back of the front wheel wells for clearance, the back of the wheel well is now back to the firewall

Because it is black and always muddy you can't see the gloss black spray paint I used after I cut & welded it

Neither does mine

----------

I THINK the IAC valve is the type of EGR on 1988 2.9 motors
If I'm wrong somebody please correct me
Our 2.9 motors have MAP sensors too unlike everybody else who have MAF sensors

nope, it simply just doesn't have EGR on 88+. MAP/SD engine management was used in some earlier EEC/TFI-IV systems, no MAF sensor. 90 California Emissions computer is MAF for a 2.9L and is strait forward to convert over.

OK I understood about 90% of that, back to the original question

What controls the air/fuel mixture because it is running way to rich

You can smell that it is running way to rich, what controls the air-fuel mix?

Yes it has stock gears and 33" tires but still I should be doing better on gas and you can smell the unburnt fuel

You'll want to watch this video, it's not a Ford engine but is common on most fuel injected engines. If your year truck has the fuel regulator on the pump then this won't apply but there will be a fuel dampener on the rail instead that can leak too..

The fuel pressure is perfect, it is 40 psi with the key on and 35 psi with the engine running

It has new...
Fuel pumps
Fuel regulator
All new injectors
Fuel filter

Why do you think my Ranger looks the way it does?
I have a big air filter for the intake if the mountain ever decides to blow again
I love living here with the Elk hanging out in my front yard
Love the snow every winter too

I think my problem maybe the fuel pressure sender. Would that make it run very rich? Are the iac sender.maybe replace them both?

Hello dangerranger42
Before you replace the fuel regulator put a pressure gauge on it
If it is 35-45 psi at the schrader valve that means the regulator is fine. If it is 70-80 psi then the regulator is bad
I do not know how to test the IAC, but it is cheap to replace, I think it was less than $20 when I replaced mine, make sure you seal it well so you do not cause a vacuum leak
