Default Burning Gas (Better Gas Mileage?)

Hey I am wondering is there anything i can do to make my truck get better gas mileage? Because it seems like it burns gas way too fast! I have got a new fuel filter and a new filter in there. I also change the oil regularly. And the spark plugs are fairly new also.

Well, you can always change the gear ratio in your differential for better highway cruising mileage, you can chip the truck, upgrade to fiberglass parts, keep your tailgate up, get a tuner so you can change the gasoline consumption by limiting the amount by the tiniest bit, over inflate your tires by 5-7 psi and make sure they are all even. I have a 6 inch lift, with full frontal skidplate, full steel hood, 4.1 gear ratio in differential, im running on 33s and getting 22mpg average, and 18 mpg average in city, with 200 hp and 194 flbs of torque.

Well i keep my tailgate up, all the time..
And i am using 20"s
But when i was using my 16"s it still would burn just as fast..
I notice that the gas last longer if i fill my tank all the way up.

Well what's your mileage? All ford rangers that have stock gas tanks show a higher level than you have, so it will stay in full for a few gallons then it rockets down. I would try to get a sct tuner.
http://www.sctflash.com/
It got my mileage up from 18 mpg avg to 22mpg avg, and i put my pedal to the metal a lot. Make sure your gear ratio is correct for your tire size, and make sure you change the speedometer pinion gear when changing tire size so your trucks computer knows all the details, that is the most important part. If you have done that already, I would get a cylinder leakage test done on it if it's over 100,000 miles and the engine has not been rebuilt in the last 40k miles.

I wasnt looking to spend a whole lot of money on this. But i did not change my gearing's or nothing. But i mean it could be normal because my dad said this truck always burned alot of gas if the tank is not fill all the way up. But idk.

There is nothing you can do to improve MPG that doesn't cost 100x more than the pennies you'll save. It is all in regular proper maintenance and how you drive.

Fire is half right, there is a lot you can do to slightly increase mpg but it does cost money, Like I said before, I'm now getting 22 mpg avg after a bunch of upgrades. but the cheapest thing to do is K&N air intake systems, it can add around 5 horsepower and improve fuel economy by a small bit

Actually I'm 100% right and that is exactly what I just said...

This statement disqualifies you from having an intelligent opinion on the matter. You did not gain 5hp from it. You did not gain fuel economy from it. And even if we pretend it did, it still cost more than the pennies you would pretend to save at the gas pump.

bighomedog....what kind of mileage are you getting?

proper maintenance and tire size is the way to go

i've had everywhere from stock tires 205-55-R14 to the monsters i have now 245-70-R16's....and tire size plays a huge roll with these little motors

i went from 28+ mpgs on the highway to about 23 after i got my bigger wheels and tires

i maintain my truck as if it were new and without re-gearing or getting smaller tires, i know there is no way of getting that mileage back

16mpg sounds right on the ball with normal for what you have. The K&N filter is no factor, does not hurt or help or change anything, its a novelty. The plugs could be time, how many miles do you have on it? They aren't expensive, just make sure you buy only Motorcraft or Autolite brand plugs! Also, since you do have the K&N filter, you should probably clean your MAF, IAC, and TB since they tend to make a mess of everything sometimes.

Not sure that that means. Do you mean the BELT? No, if it is squealing then it is probably time to be replaced. When you take it off, make sure none of the pulleys are loose, wobbling, or siezing too.
