1990 ford ranger 2.9 v6 bad fuel economy
Last winter i bought a 1990 ford ranger with the 2.9l V6
it gets about 16 mpg is this normal? I had a 3.0 V6 sports car that got substantially better fuel economy (about 21-23 mpg) and my old 4.0 v6 ford exploder got 17 mpg and that was a bigger motor (obviously XD ) with an awd system
the engine also stalls out on occasion when im moving at a crawl and not giving it any gas
Any advice would be appreciated (i think i might need to change my fuel filter)
Im fairly mechanically able so i can fix it if i know what it is

Re: 1990 ford ranger 2.9 v6 bad fuel economy
tail gate improves mileage by creating low pressure behind the cab. removing it makes drag. just saying..
who really cares how many miles you get anyways, youre paying for gas either way lol.

On a mechanical side just clean your injectors, change your fuel filter and plugs and wires. Also buy a bottle of Seafoam. That stuff works wonders

A Mazda is a Ranger with different badges almost everything is interchangeable
Rangers are famous for cracked heads, plan on replacing the heads if you buy it
Rangers are also famous for poor gas mileage, expect 12-17 mpg

Be thankful. My '88 2.9 gives me 10 mpg. I would gladly take 16.
