87 2.9L 5 speed starter and fuel problems
I bought the ranger a couple months ago and when I got it the starter was toast. Loud grinding noise and it wouldn't start the truck. We towed the truck to start it and after a few attempts it started, but, it ran really really rough. We were able to drive the truck home, which was about 2 minutes in town and 15 minutes on the freeway. Up hills the truck bogged down and would go about 35 with the pedal floored. Going down hill or on flat ground it wasn't as bad, you could usually hit 65, but there was still no power. If you are stopped, the truck will die if you aren't giving it gas. Now after I got the truck home I put a new starter in it and it started right up the rest of the day. The next day when I went to start it, there was the loud grinding noise and the truck wouldn't start. I took the starter out and the the mount for the bolt on top was completely broken off of the starter. I just got a new starter but haven't put it in yet. I wanted to check out the flywheel to make sure it is fine and I wanted to see if anyone on here knows why that happened to my starter.
