Cool Ford Ranger running rich

I have a 1990 Ford Ranger that has only 4000 miles on it has been setting up for the last 5 years. Now this truck starts good but it is running very rich at idle and it is also getting very bad gas mileage it has a 2.9 liter V6 with automatic transmission and it is only a 2 wheel drive.Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also own a F150 extended cab with a 5.0 in it and it has a spun bearing in it but it still gets better gas mileage than the Ranger.

Fuel injected? Hope you changed filters after 5 years. New gas? Stuff turns to varnish after awhile. Plugs? Wires? Rat Nests? Maybe only 4000 on the odometer but time takes it's toll. Check them brakes too, they like to fool ya.
