Default big mistake - lost mark on distrubtor. crank but no start

i was rebuilding my top end - well heads up, doing new everything, gaskets etc..
i had to pull the distrubtor to change the lower manifold. i lost my mark to put it back in the same spot. what do i do now?
its a 2.9l 1991. ran fine before.. i knew its the dis, because the first time it was half a crank and then stopped, tried a random couple others locations but nothing, it cranked normally in the last two spots but wouldnt fire up.
what do i do to fix the timing?
just keep spining it till i find the right spot or concede and get a pro to fix it or...
i feel like a fool right now

Good rule of thumb that I'll use is line the rotor up with cylinder number one. That should get you roughly in the ballpark. And snag up a timing light and you'll be set

yeah been googleing what to do as well. and that seems the best, get cylinder 1 to top, line the rotor up with #1 and it should crank then adjust with a timing light..

ill try it in the morning, ive spent the last 6 hrs working on the truck lol
