Default Engine cut off while driving

Hey all,

I've got a 1987 Ranger XLT with a 2.9L V6. I was driving this afternoon holding steady around 45 mph, and without warning, the truck just up and cut off (immediately noticed due to the fairly annoying deceleration while going uphill). Coasted into a parking lot and tried to get it started again, of which it would run for anywhere between 1 and 15 seconds each time and die off again, Most of the time, though, it just wouldn't start back up.

-Fuel pressure seems healthy (pressed the rail valve and sprayed myself by mistake)
-Cranks over nice and strong
-No engine lights or such
-Sounds like there were moments where it just flat out tried and failed to light off

So what's everyone's thoughts? Electrical maybe?

Check the health of the distributor at all? Check the ignition system. If it was a spark plug dead then it doesnt seem like it would just die like that. It would stutter first and then think about stalling out.

I think I may need some clarification on the whats and whereabouts of this electronic ignition module because I've got a distributor on my block, of which i hate playing with because that means adjusting the timing again.

If you have an ecm it might be bad because that would cause it to randomly die and the check engine light wouldnt come on because the ecm comtrolls that and in alot of cases it wolunt read a fault code on itself and therefore have random problems with no fault code
