My 88 Ranger with a 2.9 v6 makes a funny noise when I shut it off. It is coming from the black actuator on the fire wall that controls the EGA. It has a red and green vacuum tube attached to it and also a two wire lead. When I shut the engine off it sounds like this piece has a vacuum leak. The sound last for about 5 seconds. Is this normal? Does yours make any sound or should this be replaced?
Thanks for the idea but I took the actuator off (the EGV) and hooked a hose up to the port for the red vacuum line and sucked on it. It made the same sound that I hear when I shut the engine off and open the hood. It is definnetly the EGA controller. My question is "Is this normal or is it considered a vacuum leak? It sounds like it may be doing it when the engine is running. Should I replace it? It idles like it has a vacuum leak. I was hoping some one with a 1988 87 90 ranger v6 would do the same test on there rig. You don't even have to remove it. Just hook a hose up to the red vacuum port while the engine is off and see if it will hold a vacuum. Thanks
Wow, I guess I need to rethink my question. That was not at all what I was looking for. Can you post a picture on this form? I think if I could show which part I'm talking about it might clear things up.
