Either starter is bad out of the box, or you have a bad connection. Trace with a meter and/or test light and go from there.

there should be 2 wires.

one big one (that goes on the big stud)

and one lil wire ( goes on solenoid and what activates it)

sounds like your main power wire is not hookedup

I am not sure about that model year. The later starters have 2 wires, the older ones only have one. My 1988 had 1 wire, my 1987 5.0 as 1 wire, my 93 mustang had 2, my 93 Tempos have 2, etc. Need to see if there is a terminal connection on the starter (either flat, or a threaded stud), and look for an additional smaller wire that runs parallel with your main power wire to the starter. If you had the battery disconnected, be sure to check connunity of the ground wire to ground and positive to the + terminal on the battery. I've found that the terminals can be problematic with these trucks.

Thanks everyone. I got it started I had to redo my ground connection. And my starter has 1 wire going to it. Now I just have to remove about 200 hail dents.
