Default Compatible?

I plan on swapping my 1990 2.9 & auto transmission with a buddys late 80's 2.9 motor & auto transmission. The only difference is his is a ex-cab automatic that shifts from the floor & mine is a single cab automatic that shifts from the steering wheel,so what Im wanting to know is if the transmission is compatible or not???Thanks!

Actually in the early models, the auto's did have floor shifters.

I am also unsure whether you can swap between floor shifter and column shifter. You may need to check to see that they are both the same transmission, and that the linkages can be swapped.

I am not 100%, but I think the shift levers are different by 180 degrees. To flip, I think I recall someone mentioning having to take apart the valve body. But I have never done this personally on an A4LD transmission. Easy enough to look and compare.

---- I have flipped them on AODs, but it didn't get into the valve body. I wouldn't recommend trying it unless you know what you're doing. I would probably pass on that one, but I am not well verse with automatic transmissions.
