Default 88 ,2.9 intake gasket question

hi,this is my first post & my first 2.9 to work on,i was putting on a set of heads.(old ones were craked so i was told&not there),when i get to the lower intake man; the gasket wasnt in two peices (like the v8's or 3.8 (6) ive had ..it had a center piece to it; that to me looked like it was to be cut to seperate. then (duh lol)after looking a book the next day a pic; i saw seemed to have the piece still in tacted.. is this right? or did i eff up by cutting it ? will it be ok to run that way? Or do i need to get a new gasket and start again? what is the purpose of this center piece ..in hind sight it looks like some kind of splash guard. is this it? ive seen some v8s that had a metal splash guard but never one made into the gasket that way. thanks for any help . sorry it seems that i double the post

I've installed them as the single piece, no clue how it will turn out in two pieces. But if it's sealed.. Really easy with it being single piece though, compared to the 2 separate pieces like on a sbf. Could have to do with it being a 60 degree v6 instead of a 90 degree engine, but honestly no idea.

3.8L swap is entirely possible. I have swapped in a 5.0L V8, and I would imagine it would be similar. Engine is a different bell housing, so you'd have to switch transmissions and probably have some drive shaft work done. Engine harness would need adapted to the Ranger. Probably going to have some fuel line connection differences. Not sure if oil filter would need relocated, but that's part of the discovery/fitment part. Would go with a S/C 3.8L considering what it is and for the amount of work involved... 4.0L is an easier way to go.

thanks for the reply pysco.. i was thinking the 3.8 as i have one thats seems good as it is running. yes the 3.8 trans(auto) was the one i would use. i am worried about oil not running properly thru the engine.(2.9 gasket).thats the only reason i thought about the Change.. again thanks will keep updated .. yea a v8 would be a fun toy tho..
