Re: 2.9L upgrades that wont break the bank?
I have an 87 Ranger 2.9, love it...Been getting around 17 mpg...searched on ebay, got the 25 dollar performance chip, and it really helps the gas milage...i can tell the difference, most people say it sucks but it works, on the ranger atleast. also im seeing a slight increase in the power..definitly worth the money...i can make a video on how to hook it up if you want..if you get it. Other than that, i have a aftermarket air intake...i kept up with a 90 s10 v8 before the chip

the best thing that you can do performance wise and fuel econo wise that dotn break the bank is to just maintain them. cheap mods when it comes to perforamce are usually bogus and dont help much, just do routine maintainance try to keep your engine like new and she will love you back

i call shenanigans, no way a v6 ranger can keep up with a v8 unless you got some serious engine work done

on paper, my 4l sohc is rated at 0-60 in 8 secs flat. the dakota 4.7 v8 does it in 9.4, so it is possible for a v6 to own a v8 because of weight difference

Im sorry but im throwing up the BS flag here. First off, that "chip" you bought on Ebay is a sham and does nothing but maybe make the truck run lean, they are a complete sham. Secondly, i had a ranger with 2.9 and that thing couldnt keep up with a butterfly! Its a decent motor but its sllooooooowwwwww.

Re: 2.9L upgrades that wont break the bank?
Yet those of you with the 2.9 are running with a stock exhaust which reduces power. The "chip" is just a resistor which tells the engine the air coming in is colder than what it actually is. Note I didn't say i beat the s10, i kept up with him. Like i said, you can feel a slight difference. with the chip. And idk what it is about my v6 but it sure ain't slow. Speed wise yes its slow but it accelerates very quickly. I'll upload a video on youtube soon.

Re: 2.9L upgrades that wont break the bank?
I think your using your butt horsepower to determine it lmao also the v8 was probably not even going full out

Re: 2.9L upgrades that wont break the bank?
heck those 2.9 are rated at 140 hp, most 4 bangers made after 1990 had the same amount of horsepower lol. well I guess it isnt that much weaker then the more modern 3L which is rated at 147 HP or the 2.3 4 cyl at 143 HP, but keep up with a V8 when it has oodles of torque, he musnt have been gonig full out

I have to throw up the bs flag on this. I had A 91 s10 with a 350 and it sure would run off and leave ANY ranger. I have a 89 2.9 ranger now and it runs real good(not stock) my s10 would have ran off and left it.
