Question bad groud or short in electrical

ive recently gotten a bad ground or a short some where, slowly drains battery, and creates an electrical zap from the frame under the hood also while running, and lights are on the left dash lights pulsates with engine running. Also the 4x4 light does not come on,my neural safety switch is bad. Could the switch cause this,or can someone help me locate the problem?

yea thx,i try to take care of it since it's 23 years old gotten it fixed now any ways,it was an annoying slow drain on my battery ended up being voltage regulator.think that has to be the dumbest part ford made the way it is for that year of ranger.

i hate the type of alternator for my year of ranger the worst n most expensive to fix could have replaced it and been done with it,but a 155 bucks later n plenty of headache going the cheapest route wasn't the way to go,should have just paid to completely rebuild the alt, in the first place. Im used to dodge n some older fords where the regulators n all the electronic ignition parts are on the fenders or firewalls. My little ranger taught me a lesson this time at least next time i got a heads up n get it fixed right the first time around.

The dodge alternator for my van is over $200 at an auto part store and I haven't been able to find any kind of parts for rebuild. I don't think 155 is all that bad..

I bought a alternator from Ebay for my Tempo for $32 shipped and has been fine for the past 3 years. I always look into that route if I have the down time, but have to know how to test it to know if it's good once it's on the car. Crap shoot, but it's one with better odds than the actual game.

yea no dout but even a cheaper way think ill go buy a bad but fixable alt, from a junkyard n figure out how to rebuild it myself always wanted to since the first alt, problems i had when i was a kid n had an old 77' plymouth fury with a 360 interceptor in it had a double pully bigger higher amped alt, than any 360 that year has,had to have a speed performance shop do it because no one else in town new the type of alt, it was same with carb kit had a holley 750 dd barrel w\ secondary pedal trust jets.
