Default Engine swap how to on a 83 ranger

I decided to get a reman 2.8l to relace the aging 2.8l already in. I've never done anything like this. I'm certain myself and a buddy can do this. Is there a how-to out there I can look through. I'm more concerned with removal and installation. Do I have to remove the front grill, radiator, etc. Thanks

Buy the service manual at your local parts store, it will walk you thru the steps. The more you remove the less you can f-up (radiator, etc.), mark wires and connectors, make notes and drawings, take digital pics if possible and take your time! Where is the truck located?

I thought about a 302--but is was after I ordered the reman 2.8, which will be here tomorrow. Still kinda wish I waited a bit longer in ordering. But I also wanted to keep it as easy as possible.

Well, I've had the reman 2.8l in for a few weeks now. I did the whole thing myself. It was fairly simple, but very time consuming. The part I thought would be the hardest(lining up the engine to the tranny) was a piece of cake.

I found out I probably didn't need to spend $ on a new block and heads. I could have got away with replacing the valve seals and carb. Plus I found out the old engine was also a reman. I couldn't say how many miles were on it since the previous owner was unaware the engine had already been swapped.

Initially I used the stock carb. The engine ran a bit better but no WOW factor. I then put on a Duraspark dizzy and ignition module. Again a bit better running but no WOW. I still had to give it gas to warm up before it would idle on it's own.

I didn't notice when I took the carb off when doing the swap that one of the flanges(one of the 4 bolt holes to secure it to the intake) on the throttle body of the carb was cracked. Several days ago, I went searching for vacuum leaks and there it was, a whistling noise between the carb and intake. Took the carb off and discovered the crack. I had ordered a Holley 7448 carb at the same time I ordered the Duraspark stuff but it was back ordered. Luckily the same day I discovered the crack on the old carb was the day the Holley came in. Put that sucker in and was initially WOWed. After cranking a bit to prime the fuel line to the carb, it started right up and idled wonderfully. Initially, It wanted to die if I gave it any load. So, after adjusting the float and air/fuel mixture needles, I can really say WOW. Big difference. I'm positive if I had just done the valve seals, Duraspark and new carb on the old engine, It would have been enough.

Anyone in Southern Maryland want a fairly good condition 2.8 block and heads? I can also throw in 2 engine stands--used only once. LOL

If you are serious about selling the V-6, let me know a few details on it. I am looking for one, if it will swap into my 83 2.0L Pickup without heroics.

yep, but it doesn't come with, oil pan, front cover, valve covers, intake, carb, fuel pump, and oil pump. If you don't already have a 2.8 with those, it can be difficult to find most of those parts. It's just the block and heads.

It is probably worth more to you as spares than it would be to me as it is. If you have a price in mind, message me. If not, as I search, if I find a blown engine with the parts, I'll look you up. Thanks.
