Default 2.9 is running VERY bad

The truck ran perfect before, mint spark plugs and everything. Well, got stuck in snow last week and got 3 guys to help push me out while i ran in 1st gear. Got traction and put it in neutral, got out and, put..put...put..put. The engine was barely running and had severe misfiring. I needed to get home quick as it was late and it would suck being stranded with no phone service. The engine would not run above 25mph. I managed to get home and with the way it is running no one can believe it. Here's the deal, my uncle came over and hooked the scanner to it, said temperature sensor. Ok makes sense because it would dump a load of fuel and flood it. Changed it, no luck. New cap and rotor no luck. new wires and plugs no luck. After I installed brand new plugs cylinder #1 and #2 was fouled and 3,4,5,6 was clean and never even fired. It has to be ignition, so what would cause cylinder #1 and #2 to spark and foul but #3,#4,#5 and #6 to not even spark at all!!! I need help ASAP because this is my daily driver and I put to much into her to give up. Thanks!
Mike

Sounds like your ignition module took a dump.

Put another distributor in, along with TFI. Nothing changed and fouled #1 and #2 plugs, others did not fire. I unplugged the MAP sensor still misfired and ran bad but was a bit better, plugged it back in and just about stalled. Would a bad MAP sensor cause it to dump fuel?

It could. You might be on to something there. Can you borrow one from someone else to see if it corrects the problem? I realize there aren't many '86 Rangers around. Maybe a junk yard is the answer. If it fixes the problem, then you're good, if not you aren't out too much money.

My local junkyard has boatloads of 2.9L's, I will grab a few for the heck of it and hope it works. Everything else was changed...I hope it works!

Finally got down to having to pull the heads. As I pulled the rocker arm rail off the driver side head, the #6 intake spring fell off. I found 1 of the retainers, hopefully the other is in the pan. After I pulled the heads, passenger seems ok but driver side had a bent valve. I figured ok, I will throw another valve in, pulled it out and there is 3 cracks around the valve area. So I will most likely get a head out of the junkers tomorrow and I will try to get an 88 and newer one if I can. Is the piston ok with that mark from the valve? Here's the pictures.

----------

I got the heads, they were in an 89 ranger. The engine was complete and it was in a wreck. Funny thing is I remembered the truck when it was on the road. Took about 2.5 hours and good thing the exhaust was cut so I removed the manifolds when they were out off the truck. 5 out of 12 bolts broke, but they are removable. There is a big difference in thickness from the older heads too.

Cleaned and painted my heads, installing valve stem seals friday. I also ordered my gasket set, I will have it tomorrow.

----------

Since the 86 valve covers won't work with the 89 heads I ran to the junkyard for the valve covers I left there. Cleaned the inch of sludge off of them, they were rust free haha, and sanded and painted them to match the heads.
