1990 ranger 4x4 problems, please help.

Hello i have a 1990 2.9 ranger with automatic hubs and the 4x4 wont work, when i engage it, it just clunks. So i jacked it up and took off the front wheels and, the little driveshaft and male splines are both spinning. So its engaging but the power stops between the male splines connected to the truck, and the female end of the splines on the wheel. So i think the klunking i hear is the splines rubbing but not catching. Does anyone have any ideas, thanks a lot for any help.

if you have auto hubs they are notorious for stripping the gears in the hub assembly. i'd replace them with a set of manual waren hubs.

alright thanks alot ill do that, how much do a pair warn hubs run.

you prolly ate the inside of the hubs up. auto hubs suck they get hot and break. go to manual prolly cost ya a little bit depending on brands
