Default cleaned the IAC still acts up

well the ranger at times doesnt want to idle when i hit a stop light. last week it was fine. this week it runs like crap. kinda smells a lil gassy at times. and it feels like it may have a slight miss but then i accelerate and it snaps out of it. thought i seen some black smoke puff from it one time. could it be i need to replace the IAC? maybe its not burning the gas right and it loads up? any input?
