Default fuel filter

I have an 1985 ford ranger with a 2.8L and i was wondering where the fuel filter is located at?

Under hood, center, upper engine area, front of carburetor, mounted in fuel line

Those were the good old days when you could get your screwdriver loosen the claps pull the hoses and replace the fuel filter and the filter only cost a dollar and change.Now you have to get under the truck and use a special tool to remove the filter and hope no gas drop or spray on you and the filter cost around $20.00.O'Yes I have a 2004 XLT Ranger 4.0.

I have a 2005 and I dont use any special tool

My finer works just as good to press the deal in

On the 2004's there's a spring clip which requires a special tool that you have to insert to remove the filter.

Some Rangers you can get away with squeezing the retainer clip and some you must use the special tool.

I have an 04 too.....Do you know the name of the tool for the fuel filter? Any tips/tricks to changing it?

just changed mine today, didnt need a special tool, just had to pry the plastic rings out, but youll want to make sure you have extras incase you breack the rings. mine had to be broken to get out

yeah but i dont have the tool, and a buddy tried to do it for me a few monthes ago(because i didnt know how easy it was) and broke two of the three rings, bought the new clips and didn it myself just had to replace all the clips

wow i did buy the tool to do my old f150 and dont you know its not the right one for the 09 ranger so ill probable by pass the ford filter any way and put in a see through one buy the throttle body just like to see may gas and all thats in it!
