Those were the good old days when you could get your screwdriver loosen the claps pull the hoses and replace the fuel filter and the filter only cost a dollar and change. Now you have to get under the truck and use a special tool to remove the filter and hope no gas drop or spray on you and the filter cost around $20.00.O'Yes I have a 2004 XLT Ranger 4.0.

On the 2004's there's a spring clip which requires a special tool that you have to insert to remove the filter.

Some Rangers you can get away with squeezing the retainer clip and some you must use the special tool.
