Question Grandpa Marc needs answer

Hi,
Just joined today.I have a 83 Ranger V6.
I was getting lousey milage with the original computer carb and distributer. Then I heard about changeing over to the durospark ignition.I found the correct modual and coil, also the wires and a carb on ebay. Then I bought a remanufactured 78 Mustang distributer at Avance auto.
I found the carb needed some work, got a kit, cleaned and rebuilt it.Truck would not run. Then I took the carb to a friend who rebuilds them.He took it back apart and redid it again. Then he put it on his 67 Ford Galexy. The car started right up,reved up and ran strong.
I put it on my Ranger and tried to start it.It cranked a bit, started ,ran about two seconds, and cut off.It did this repeatedly.
Gas is going to the carb and there is spark.
I checked the timeing and it is off maybe a degree or two.
I used 7mm wires that I had.It should be 8mm and will change. coil is for electonic system.
Anyone out there have any idea why it won't run and experianced this same problem when convering to duraspark?
Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
Best regards,Grandpa Marc
