In the morning when I go to fire it up it spudders for about 10 seconds then balls up and starts any ideas what I can do to fix the problem?

The usual culprits of poor idle are a dirty IAC, dirty throttle body, or dirty MAF. Remove and clean all of the above. Disconnect the battery while you're doing it so it will force the computer to relearn it's idle from scratch and lose any messed up settings. Fuel filter couldn't hurt either.

MAS on a 2.9L is not very common; only on the California Emission models. Will likely have a BAP/MAP sensor.

Might pull trouble codes also. Found on my '93 Tempo that the CEL was burnt out, sure enough codes were present. Warm engine can cover up fuel delivery problems, but you really can't tell if it's a fuel delivery problem unless the fuel pressure is checked.

Could be a dozen things, how long has it been since it's had a basic tune-up?
