Default this has got me stumped...

ok so i drove my 90 ranger to my buddies house and it run fine on the way over there. i have noticed a slight ticking noise but i figured it was a lifter... well i jumped in my truck about 30 minutes later and it spun as if there was no compression. is it bent valves or could it be the timing chain? thanks in advance for helping me!

Maybe your timing jumped a notch so your valves are all out synch and not closed during some part of the compression stroke. I figure you would have heard horrible things beforehand if you had a bent valve not just a sight ticking.

Are you sure your engine is even turning? compression test stat! post the resuts.

Pull you distributor cap, have someone turn the engine over and make sure that it's still spinning the rotor and driving the oil pump.

Make sure it's getting spark, and compression test a few of the cylinders.

Sometimes a blown head gasket will make an exhaust ticking sound?
