Re: Gas pump constantly shuts off during fueling
They are oxygenating the gasoline.
The excessive air in the fuel, especialy in higher temps, causes the burping problem.
I just had my filler neck replaced(twice since 2003), both times i knew it went bad when i could not fill at full speed and when it clicked at the end, and i would get a bath!!
Try pulling it out almost all the way, then tilt in just a bit...
or pull filler rubber back by hand and jam metal nozzle all the way down!

Re: Gas pump constantly shuts off during fueling
I have tried that pulling out thing, tipping thing, turning upside down thing, jamming it thing (older station here doesn't have splash shields) and it was 28 degrees this morning when I slo-mo filled up. No change.

Re: Gas pump constantly shuts off during fueling
This problem isn't new to Ford since it has now affected newer Mustang's, Edge's, Explorer's, and Ranger's. I belong to www.explorerforum.com, and by accident, I had just read about this same issue posted on another forum a couple days earlier. Some members thought I was kidding, and I couldn't find the exact info. I was looking for, however, the links below should help. It is a venting issue, and the dealers seem to be replacing the "Filler tank pipe". Hope these help.

Re: Gas pump constantly shuts off during fueling
This may sound weird but I didn't have this problem till I really flexed out my truck. What could have caused that

I stand by my original post. Some Ford owners on www.explorerforum.com had the same issue and were skeptical, but I think in the end they were believers. Anyway, it could just be a coincidence for you that after flexing the problem happened. My family has owned Fords all their life, and this is the first I've heard of the issue until about 10 months ago. Hope everyone gets this problem solved soon.

i was thinking if the filler hose should go straight up threw the bed instead of over the frame it is pinched cuz of bending over it out to the fuel door maybe that would help some

Re: Gas pump constantly shuts off during fueling
the problem is somewhere between the tank and the throttle body (maybe even the small nipple is plugged with carbon on the bottom of the TB), particularly with the small vacuum line/charcoal canister. It's probably not the actual vacuum line. if it can't vent fast enough, fuel comes back up the filler tube, which shuts down the station's pump. you can try different angles, but I have seen what you're describing personally when a vent tube was plugged off with a screw. People plug these off, I don't know why they just don't fix and retain it.

Re: Gas pump constantly shuts off during fueling
In my case, I have replaced the filler neck, and it has the vent tube for the fuel pump hard piped on the side. There is another vent tube for the tank that mounts on top of tank, and goes to a 3 way valve. When the truck is off, the vent valve is normally open to a charcoal canister & then to atmosphere. The other side of the valve opens when the motor is running and runs the vapors up and through the engine. If that valve gets stuck closed, or the charcoal canister gets clogged, you cannot get gas into the tank correctly. That is next on my list to fix, was going to do it this summer, but life kept getting in the way. LoL

Re: Gas pump constantly shuts off during fueling
I thought you were posting about a 2.9(?) Why are you posting your problem in the 1986-1992 2.9L engine forum ?? You are 2-3 generations newer.

Re: Gas pump constantly shuts off during fueling
Because it is the exact same problem across several years & motor sizes. And the search routine dropped me here. We are all looking to solve problems with our trucks, not to be nit-picky little bitches.
