Default HELP! Truck barely stays at idle.

Morning, I have an 88 ranger XLT that had been sitting for quite awhile (1 year)... it was running great before it was parked. It's the two tank model, I drained (siphoned) the rear tank and put in 10gal of fresh fuel with a little "heat" injector treatment added in.

Flushed the fuel line by releasing gas with the truck running from the valve on the intake manifold. It's now pumping in good gas. The truck still starts, but it barely stays at idle when you dance on the pedal. The fuel pump is pushing a lot of gas, testing out OK. It will run great when you spray some injector cleaner into the intake for a few seconds and then it bogs down again. It just stalls when you give it gas for more than a second.

Had a friend take a look (master bike/car mechanic for Mercedes/Bmw) and he said to try replacing the fuel pressure regulator. I don't have a lot of money and was hoping to get a second opinion from a Ford tech before I start throwing parts at it... help!

I'm not a Ford tech, so disregard if you want, but the best way to know if you have a fuel system problem is checking the pressure with a gauge at the schrader valve you pressed on the fuel rail. Your friend will (read should ) have one you can borrow...

Also look over your vacuum lines and regular maintenance stuff. Found a lot of stuff wrong with cars that I had been chasing working on something else, and just noticed it and had that 'ah ha' moment.

Thanks for the tip man! Think I should have re-phrased "Ford tech" as was mainly looking for someone with Ford experience, maybe had a similar problem and could tell me straight out, all things have their quirks...

My friend came by in his truck with no tools, so he couldn't be definitive. Yeah, it was on the fuel rail not the intake manifold... am not great with cars, more of a bike guy. Cars have so many extra bits I'm not familiar with.

Thanks again

Posting this in case anyone's searching with the same problem. Apparently it's a known issue with Ford's. When the MAP sensor goes it behaves just as I described. Hope this help somebody! Know it could have saved me a ton of grief and parts. Have fun!
