Default battery cable problem????

hey i workin on an old 1990 ford ranger 2.9 and the thing was torn all to pieces and the battery cable on the positive side has a ground where does it go

i could be wrong but doesnt sound like a ground??? the smaller wire on the ground usually goes to the radiator support. and on the positive the smaller wire goes to the the solenoid on the apron???

I agree, putting a wire from the positive terminal to ground will cause a big smoke show at a minimum.

Not familiar with the later harnesses with the power distribution box, but an EVTM would probably get you on the right track.
