hes right about all of that. ive seen dynos that prove his point. in some cases, the cold air has decreased power

FireRanger is right.

All CAI's do is lighten your wallet, and if your lucky, they wont HURT performance.

The factory intake is a true cold air intake, and will happily supply all the air the engine can use, and then some.

Tests prove that a NAPA Gold air filter provides the best trade off between air flow and filtration, and they wont hurt your intake sensors.

Not flashy, but if you want performance, then go with what's proven.

The factory set-up provides good all around performance, and if you want to get more, then be prepared to spend real money and time.

I bought a regular cone filter and put it on my stock intake tube and I've noticed a little bit of pick up. But ive been driving this truck for bout 7 years now. Its hard to get cheap power on these 2.9s. Bottom line good maintenance and care of your truck is the best.

Seriously???? It boggles my mind that after everything in this thread, and everything in the several other recent threads about this topic, that I'm reading this post. Obviously under the hood is not the only place there is a lot of hot air.

Dude relax I'm just saying what I've experienced. I have noticed a little bit more throttle response with what i did. Ive had this truck since i was 15 and im now 23 I know this truck like the back of my hand. Did you happen to read the rest of my post?? This tread has become worthless now. Just saying.

Yes I read the rest of your post, which has nothing to do with your claim that your hot-air-intake-cone increased your throttle response, which I would bet money it did no such thing.

Some people can also spell and construct properly formatted sentences when offering an alternate and correct viewpoint. You should try it. In the meantime, can you please explain (in english) what your uncle putting a CAI onto a GT500 has to do with a Ford Ranger pickup truck engine and intake design?

No it's not, its very useful. You not liking that you were wrong doesn't make the thread bad. Don't just jump in, disagree with everyone in the thread, and demand it be locked because you can't handle being a fool.

Port and polish the heads and intake runners. Trim the intake and exhaust gaskets so there is no interference. These are a start. There are a lot of things you can do with an engine like different pistons, ignition modules, etc that will make a difference. You will need to do a lot of work to the engine to take advantage of a CAI and a header/exhaust combo.

Otherwise, you are looking at a turbo or a super charger. Either way will not be cheap though the turbo/super charger option would be easier in the short run that building the engine would be.
