Question Help please

I have a 1984 Ranger that I recently purchased for $100.00. It has the 2.0L I-4 with the 4 speed manuel trany. The engine runs but has a bad knock. I am looking into a rebuild but I am also considering installing a V-6.
What I would like to know is if the 2.8 V-6 will bolt up to the transmission.

I really dont want to have to swap out the transmission. with the engine swap.

I would appericate any help you guys could give me.

Thanks in advance

I know the bellhousing patterns are going to be different, but not too sure what would be involved if you could swap the bellhousing from a 2.8L w/ a similar trans. Might look into that and see if it can be done if you do not have an integral bellhousing.

i think manual transmissions have an interchangble bell housing but im not sure look at where the bellhousing is and see if it is one peice with the transmisssion or not on both of the vehicles chances are if its automatic its a intergrated bellhousing tho

I know my 85 had a removable bell housing. Thats how the slave cylinder for the clutch is replaced. But maybe the 2wd with the external slaves might be different. Mine was 4wd.
89 Ranger- front and rear bagd on drop ibeams and custom 2 link.

85 Ranger- 4x4 31" tires. Soon to be V8 swapped with D35s and 8.8.
