86 2.9 runs fine under acceleration, poor otherwise
Truck ran fine for years but lately it skips, stutters, misfires at constant speed after it warms up. Under acceleration it's fine but let off on gas and it soon starts repeat misfires, cuts in and out and in general runs like it's on 2 cylinders. It will idle ok for maybe 10 seconds and then very rough for 10-15 secs.. Engine doesn't smoke at All but tail pipe black and sooty. Its driving me crazy as this is my only transportation right now. Any ideas please??!!

My 1988 2.9 does something pretty similar my theory at the moment is that my fuel pump is going out but I haven’t tested it in any way.

Fuel pump has been replaced about 6 months ago.
