Question should i straight pipe my truck?

Thinking about taking off the muffler and cat. just wondering if i'll lose gas milage doing that?

my cousin who is a mechanic, sais it will decrease the gas milage. because of back preasure. But i thought only diesels needed back preasure, cuz i had a diesel and i straight piped it and i lost alot of milage doing so.

just wondering.

thanks.

Back pressure is bad, what you're risking is losing the scavenging effect that happens by creating an exhaust system that may not be designed as effectively.

don't do it....at least run some form of a muffler to keep the backpressure there, if not you run the risk of losing some power.

I'd go for a no.

Unless you like to get the cops' attention, and a possible mandatory inspection.

Ive got no cats with only a flowmaster muffler...sounds nice and dont notice my gas mileage any worse than people on here say their 4.0s are getting. But we dont have emmissions checks....So if you have inspections in your state, I dont reccomend removing the cats.

i dont think we have a emissions law, since my cousin who is a mechanic straight pipe is f250, with no cats and only cherry bombs.

My cat actually has a small hole in it, He told me just to take it off and put a flowmaster on it. I plan on that eventually.

Removing the cat is a felony no matter the state....No one ever checks unless you have to have the emmissions checked...If you dont have to have an inspection sticker on your windshield then you should be good....Even if you do have to get an inspection sticker, I hear there are plenty of places that will pass you for a fee.
