Default 2.9l 86 ranger with a missfire

ive got an 86 ranger with a stupid miss. heres some details on the truck.
2.9l 140k miles
manual 5 speed
list of new parts.
ICM
ECU -88- for egr delete. removed the sensors that go with the EGR Also.
Distributor
Cap
Rotor
Wires
Plugs
Injectors
Ignition coil
Alternator
Voltage Regulator on the back of the alternator
All of which i have tested to be sure they function and they do

now .... the miss fire only happens when the Voltage Regulator is plugged in... unplug it and the truck runs smooth as can be... plug it in and it misses really really bad. i can unplug 1 of the 2 plugs on the alternator and itll smooth out doesnt matter which i can even unplug the alternator completely and its smooth..
yes ive compression tested the cylinders and the fuel rail
yes ive tested all the wires going from the alternator into the harness and theyre all working properly. even checked the fusible links.
yes ive tested the output of the regulator comes out at 14.5v
yes ive tested fuel pressure and it checks out to spec.
ive even taken a stethoscope to every injector to be sure they were functioning.

IM STUMPED
