Question 2.9L curse?

I have an 4x4 86 Ranger, 2.9 liter. Starts perfect and you wouldnt know it runs like crap until under a load. It boggs down when you hit the gas, put the pedal to the floor and it will try and catch up while blowing a ploom of smoke out the pipe. I've replaced I think all the sensors, fuel regulator, fuel pumps have full pressure. The EGR has been eliminated and capped. I tried switching the Computer with a newer model that wouldnt read the EGR miss, that did Not eliminate the problem so I put my computer back in. Pretty sure it is running very rich, where do I go now?? help please

Hi and welcome.

Can we start off by getting some more detailed information about your truck?

How many miles on the truck and engine?

What color smoke is coming from the exhaust under a load?

How long have you had this truck?

When was the last time this truck ran properly?

Does the check engine light work? and does the check engine light come on or flash with the engine running?

If the check engine light comes on, what codes are present ?

Other than the work you have performed trying to repair this issue, has there been any recent work done to this truck?

When the truck is bogging down, is the engine bucking or does it feel smooth yet lacks power?

The truck has about 120k miles, previous owner said the motor was rebuilt before he owned it.
The smoke is i believe black, which leads me to fuel speculations..
I have only had the truck for a month and this problem has been present since purchase. Im pretty sure it is why the previous owner sold it. I think he replaced all the sensors in a hope to eliminate the problem, which it didnt. He ran out of ideas and just got rid of it.
When it boggs, it definitely isnt running smooth. Very rough actually. If i have it in park and bring up the rpms for a minute it will begin to blow smoke and then idle super rough as well with the threat of stalling.
I think next i will pull plugs and make sure each cylinder is firing? Thanks for input!

Ok you never answered if the check check engine light works at all or comes on while the engine is running.

Since you have never seen this truck run good, I would suggest peRforming a compression test on each cylinder.

Let's make sure the engine is worth trying to save.

Post a answer to the check engine light question, and post your compression reading findings for each cylinder.

For me to be willing to help any further I need this information.

If you need help on how to properly run a compression test let us know.

Can any one help me out with some things on my 85/ford ranger. I'm having some fuel system delivery issues and I really just don't know where to start
